The Mythology and Symbolism of American Culture – Discourses on Minerva

In this brief lecture, we explore the myths and symbols of American art and culture, specifically the American Adam and the dialectical tension between the Garden and the Machine. In overviewing American symbolism and mythology in art, culture, literature, and film, we utilize the writings of R.W.B. Lewis and Leo Marx to help us understand American symbols in story-telling.
