Lecture: Eric Voegelin and the Politics of Gnosticism – Discourses on Minerva

In this lecture, we explore and explain what Eric Voegelin meant when he described “Gnostic” politics. Looking at The New Science of Politics and Order and History, we understand Eric Voegelin is describing Gnostic politics as a condition of disorder and alienation in the human soul. The purpose of political science or political philosophy is to understand the true nature of man in history which means understanding man not just as a political animal but as a metaphysical creature.
